Vista do meu quarto / My room's vi

The islands are really beautiful. Of course, are full of falangues and the money hunt is inevitable. But I'm in a dream place. Having stayed in a cheaper room in Bangkok (I not even slept well there), I thought I deserved a counterbalance, and for about twenty euros, I'm in the most beautiful place I have ever paid to stay. It is a bay, practically on top of the sea, which as we used to see in the magazines, is really that crystal blue. Even at night, I can see the seabed. (Sorry about that Arrábida).

Daqui de cima. (From up here)

O monte dourado / The golden mount

Finalmente encontro alguma paz nesta cidade infernal.

I finally find some peace in this infernal city. The rhythm is really impressive, the constant noise, pollution, .. Sometimes, I walk into malls just to refresh myself. Even, for getting in or out of the boats or buses requires a certain fitness.
At Lumphini park, I couldn't get away from the noise and hundreds of people run, desperately, to get close to a healthier life.
It was good to have been, before, in the deep Thailand to be able to distinguish the real Thai products from the ones made for Westerners. The commerce is crazy and about the food, I no longer exchange one patseeyu or an omelette with oyster sauce for any bright and extremely hygienic restaurant in a monstrous shopping center.
I can finally, follow a travel guide's advice, finding a bar in a fifty-second floor of one of the many skyscrapers in the city. Being accompanied by several securities and elevators assistants to the open bar with a panoramic view of the city (as if it was a king). I confess, that even in this situation, my chameleon qualities were tested.
I ask for a tonic gin for six euros (that could feed me for a week in Banguad) that comes with three different types of snacks: cashews, peanuts coated with wasabi and thinly sweetened sliced pumpkin (it seems). On the television is being shown Portuguese league games highlights ("how appropriate").
We can't hear the deafening noise of the city from here, but is only reachable to some.

The biggest aerobics class I've ever seen

Cidade louca / Crazy city

Louca Banguecoque / Crazy Bangkok

Cidade de contrastes / City of contrasts

"Everybody is changing but I don't feel the same..." :)

Um dos centros comerciais / One of the malls

Finally in Bangkok, I've seen western couples. And today, I even saw a couple with a western woman and a Thai!
I don't feel as important as I felt in the smaller places I've been. Anyway, people keep having pleasure in helping me. The movement of the city is amazing and it's hard to find somewhere cool, calm and free from odors. Even the temples are crowded with tourists. It's strange to see lots of Indian wearing western clothes and being in temples as they were in recreational parks. The locals, even in the middle of the frenzy, close their eyes, and with their hands clasped, find peace through Buddha. Fascinating.
In buses, they still have two people working: the driver and the ticket seller. In the first bus I got surprised that the seller lean herself against me. But it seems to be normal. It's for the balance.
To find something in Bangkok isn't easy, and I always have to walk much more than expected. After failing to find a restaurant I didn't try to find the next bar. The massage parlors are one next to another and the "masseuses" are outside. Some, really good looking. I was never called by so many women in my life.
Here in Bangkok, you can see that the Thai are prettier than average. They have beautiful straight hair, slim body (most often elegant), the Asian features (usually help) and the, always, childish attitude that makes them irresistible. No wonder you see so, so, but so much old, ugly, fat, tattooed and bald foreigners with a Thai woman (often looking as prostitutes). I imagine that the few western women which come here on a romantic holiday, don't feel quite fitted in.
Another aspect of boundless kindness and admiration that this people have for the west, are the monstrous skyscrapers, shopping malls and the amount of bars with sport emissions for those "falangues." The money that comes from Western countries gets in here as easily as the Thai women let in...

And here, at a cool bar in the middle of Bangkok, alone and after a few beers, I hear a couple playing and I have to say: It's one of those bands considered "not in", but... "Everybody is changing but I don't feel the same..." :)
